Hi, I am Helen, and I'm a Clinical Canine Massage Therapist and I help to rehabilitate soft tissue injuries commonly seen as lameness limping or slowing down. I also help to provide chronic pain management for Orthopaedic, Neurological and Myofascia conditions.
Massage can help to address the 5 principles of pain. These are Gait, Posture, Activities of Daily Living, Behaviour and Performance.
I look at their gait - the way they walk to assess for lameness or limping.
I look at their posture to see if they are standing correctly to see if it shows any abnormality. The back could be roached or swayed back.
I consider their activities of daily living, for example, constantly skidding on a laminate floor can cause injuries to the shoulder girdle and back leg stabilising muscles.
I investigate their behaviour, for example growling when being groomed can indicate pain or soreness.
I will also look at performance issues for the sporting dog, for example pole knocking or weaving issues in agility dogs.
Clinical Canine Massage generally achieves results in 1-3 sessions.
I trained with Natalie Lenton of the Clinical Canine Massage Therapy Centre and I use four disciplines of massage. These are: -Swedish, Sports, Deep Tissue and Myofascial Release. Then there is the Lenton Method, which is a set of direct myofascial releases. These total over 50 different techniques.
This method has recently undergone research at Winchester University. Read more about it here.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to give me a call.
Results you can see and your dog can feel.
